Yep. This picture was taken in June, 1940.
When I bought the 0400 in 1973, the hole was still in the roof. Over the years it had been only covered by tar paper roofing....which was long gone. I could not find a picture, but around 1980 I was given a "roof box" by Walt Hudson, a former RGS employee. Walt lived in Clifton, Co (where I lived) and I never ask how he "obtained" it.
The box was nothing more that 1x6 lumber with a round piece of glass in the front and back. The inside of the box was lined with sheet metal and there was a hanger inside to mount a caboose lantern. A coffee can with holes punched in it, was used on the top of the box....for the chimney. (typical RGS) When we moved the caboose to the Loop in 1988, I included the box, mounted on the caboose. I have never seen it since.
