Thompson Park is the beautiful valley of Cherry Creek about midway between Hesperus and Mancos. (Park in this case meaning “Valley” like South Park.) It is beautiful pristine ranch country! Unless you are up above the highway on the old railroad grade, the best view of it is just east of the Montezuma/La Plata county line on US 160 – or just about at the entrance to the Target Tree campground. Probably the best view of the valley from the RGS grade it was looking south in the area between Grady and Dix – about MP 133-135.
