I think there is an issue of percieved trust. Yes, I know that the CRRM is not a publicly owned entity that is duty bound to preserve any and every artifact that has any little bit to do with Colorado railroading, but there is still a common belief that items on property are "safe". One can wonder if things may have been different if an appeal was put out for donations to save Mail Car 6. There's a good chance that it would not have changed a thing. It's a tough time to be in the soliciting donations business. I would have to begrudgingly agree that they made the best decision with the situation as it is. I think that maybe it would help in the future to make things known so that there may be an opportunity to save the next one.
