There was a television show on interviewing cigarette factor workers of the 40's and 50's and they said there was a worker who used to unclog the asbestos hopper that fed the stuff to the filter maker. They said he would be COVERED with asbestos and looked like a snowman. They also said he died young from cancer, well DUH! Now we know why.
