It's interesting what railroads with little funds used as parts during the Great Depression. I have seen tie plates used as braces for wooden freight cars and lining bars made from Model T steering wheel shafts.
You mention your Model T, my Model B Ford has home-made brackets on the rear fenders. Making do with anything you can find is how some things were done in the 1930's, especially on the RGS.
