I'm not talking about operating crews here mostly.I'm talking shop people. Larry Beam told be at Durango once for what it is worth, quote "Have you ever talked to a shop man who remminissed about his days around an engine? Almost none. But it seams that most engine crews were always doing that,talking about the good old days". What engine they they liked and how much they enjoyed working on her" But the shop crews they had to put up with all the built in bad trates that came with the class of locomotive. Ask the D&S crews who remember the "97"I got this info on how much trouble the "97"
was on the high line from Larry Beam ,Roundhouse foreman . I'm just the messenger here! I talked years ago with the CMO of the 4th division
and he said the "37"s were not a sucess story for the D&RGW they were too heavy for their frames.I have nothing against the K-37! The D&S had the history with them and from what was told it was not good nor popular with the shop guys. Why would the D&S bail out on the "37s"in the first place if they were a good locomotive for the Silverton ?
But the "97" worked very well on the C&TS!
