I had herad that the 499 was not in as good as shape as the 493 and 498 that is why she went. But the Rio Grande gave the 486 to the Royal Gorge because they said it would never run again and it was unrepairable condition--funny it's been running for what 10 years now? If there was $$$ to restore the 499 it would run fine but it takes $$$. I for one would love to see some other locomotive go the mantle at the Gorge and see the 499 running again on Cumbres--who know's maybe one day. If I could I would restore all the K-37's but that would mean I hit the powerball which isn't too likely. I'm hoping that in the next 5 years we see the 492 and 497 back in action or even better getting the 493 out of Silverton and to Chama for restoration.
