Ballard, now a suburb of Seattle, was once very much the area "capital" of Swede and Norge immigrants. As I kid I was sitting on a bus bench with an old man who began telling jokes that went over my head.
One went:
So, .. ya know what a hair cut costs dare in a Ballard ?
No. How much ?
Well, itsa FOUR dollars, don'cha know ? .. a dollar a side !
He laughed like hell as I sat there trying to figure out what he meant.
Apparently, locals were known as "square heads" in the old days.
Much funnier now than to a 12 year old kid.
