You all might find this interesting. A civilian GMC vehicle with a GMC 361 ci straight six and five speed overdrive tranny. A 1947 which is states as the last of the line.

Here are some other GMC ARFs:
1944

1945 - 308 six cyl engine

1939 (note: lettered Denver, CO)

As the 1947 model is noted as "the last of the series" and had a 361 with five speed overdrive, perhaps the goose engines/trannys were built for this truck line and were surplussed when the line was discontinued. It could account for them being brand new when delivered to the RGS.
