Yup, sounds pretty good to me.
If you have access to the Grandt pictorials and spend more time than I did this morning you might find evidence of removed brackets. Offhand from memory, I recall seeing a couple of brackets where the right anle bend had been broken or torched off. There was also a picture of 497 with no bracket, but had bolt heads still where the bracket had been connected.
I'll be interested in more info!
