Sorry to get into this late, but have been travelling. I wrote the history of 268 for the Gunnison museum and the history of 278 for the San Juan Car Co ON3 kit. I was given copies of the D&RGW records for both engines and neither of them ever had a K-27 tender. 278 got the present tender in the late 20s. I have photos of it in 1932 and 1935 with it. If you want to see the full history of 278, it will be published in the Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette as soon as the San Juan On3 kit is released.
