Here is a link to Bill White's article on the 6300's from his RGS Technical page, which is now housed at riograndesouthern.com
It has a lot of information on them, Russ489 was correct about them being built on frames that were much like the 40' reefer frames.
I built two of them, and they are great looking cars, although they were never intended for the heavy duty service the 6500's were made for.
In 1966, at the tender age of 16, I visited Durango and Silverton for the first time. One of the things I'll never forget is the impression the 6500 flats and the drop bottom gons made on me. They were like nothing I'd ever seen or read about on the narrow gauge, although my exposure to narrow gauge was admittedly limited to that point.
