Mike, An example exists at Travel Town Museum in Los Angeles. It's an SP 0-4-0 switcher that used to work at Taylor Roundhouse in L.A.
Built in 1880 by Baldwin as a steam "dummy", it has it's main axle placed very close to the firebox. So close, in fact, that there is no room for eccentrics and straps. The eccentrics and straps are located on the #1 axle and the eccentric blades extend aft instead of the traditional forward most of us are used to. There is another 0-4-0 located in Fort Bragg,CA with the same set-up.
