In some cases, these artifacts are a memorial to someone who was killed in the wreck. As one who ran trains out there and smacked a rock or two that would have sent a T-12 tumbling ashpan over steam dome into the Gorge, the dangers those old guys faced out there were very real. They died on the field of battle. The artifacts should remain untouched. When you go out there to see remains, remember you are walking on hallowed ground.
