I have to agree with John B and Tim, leave it as is, maybe trim back the bushes so it's more visible, but leave it there. Some time ago Earl told a story of a well meaning railfan who went in and collected an endsill and coupler from somewhere along the line. He then took it and turned it in to the RR. The RR then took it and put it back where it came from, costing a few man hours. Not a big loss, but an unnecessary one.
