Though I have visited there numerous times since, my fond memory of Gato is from 1968. No train running the day I was there--just a quiet spot, Gomez's store, a track patrolman puttering around. In other words, like 1928 instead of 1968. As John Norwood said about narrow-gauge country: "Too bad it all changed."
