1235am - Extra 497 West arrives. Engineer - Davis. On duty in Chama 915pm, tied up 1245am. Fireman - C. Hines. 497 was helper on last night's eastbound, and returned to Chama.
445am - Extra 499-495 East Arrives. Conductor Bruce. Engineers - 499 Rhodes, 495 Buchanan. 4 loads, 78 empties, 1333 tons (no 70-car limit in 1951?), Called in Durango 700pm. Tied up 525am. Brakemen Murray and Mason. Caboose 0505.
815am - Extra 498 West Arrives. Engineer Hall. Tied up 825am. 498 was helper for X493W form Alamosa.
835a - Extra 493 West Arrives. Conductor - Clarke. Engineer - Stephens. 54 loads, 6 empties, 1422 tons. Called in Alamosa 900pm. Tied up 925am. Brakemen - Anderson and Boles. Fireman - Wellington. Caboose 0503.
1110am - Train 215 engine 484 Arrives. Conductor - Young. Engineer - Nissen. Brakeman - Nelson. 4 pass. cars.
1115am - Train 215 engine 484 Departs. Conductor - Young, Engineer - Connor. Brakeman - Nelson. 4 pass cars.
400pm - Train 216 engine 478 arrives. Conductor - Edmiston. Engineer - Dieckman. Brakeman - Cox.
4 pass cars.
405pm - Train 216 engine 478 Departs. Conductor - Edmiston. Engineer - Nissen. Brakeman - Cox. 4 pass cars.
705pm - Extra 495-499-497 East Departs. Conductor - Clarke. Engineers - 495 Stephens, 499 Hall, 497 Davis. 2 loads, 51 (!!!) empties 756 tons. Called 545pm. Brakeman - Anderson and Boles. Caboose 0503.
Note: This is the longest eastbound out of Chama I have ever heard of - 53 cars and a caboose!! What a show that must have been.
900pm - Extra 498-493 West Departs. Conductor - Bruce. Engineers - 498 Rhodes, 483 Buchanan. 52 loads, 5 empties, 1400 tons. Called at 600pm. Brakemen - Murray and H. Buchanan. Caboose 0505.
940pm - Extra 499 West Arrives. Engineer - Hall. Returning helper. Tied up 950pm. Fireman Wellington.
950pm = Extra 495 West Arrives, Engineer - Stephens. Returning helper. Tied up at 1000pm. Fireman - L. Morgan.
That 53 car eastbound must have been something. A 490 is good for 252 tons. 3 - 490's are good for 756 tons. The sound of 3 490's on thier hands and knees at 8 mph pulling thier hearts out on a still cold January night would have been something to behold.
