3D NG: July Modeling Update

July 10, 2019 11:48AM
Hello NGDF!

Thought it’s been long enough and finally decided it was about time to make a post detailing the progression in modeling I have made as of late.

First off is a locomotive project, not that I need to be dabbling more into making locomotives, seeing the state of my rolling stock skill, but I decided to anyways.

This was my attempt at a T-12, more so towards the end of their operational lifespan on the D&RG/W: sadly both surviving examples are either backdated or have most of the appliances/piping removed, so many things were guess work off photographs and how similar parts are done on other locomotives, such as the C-16’s. Still, it’s not as nice as I’d like: but it was supposed be a quick, 1-week project to just keep my skills ‘sharp’.

Next is a 6300 series flatcar, post 1937 rebuild. Lately I have been working on improving how I make frames and such, trying to model ever car/locomotive from the frame up. Doing it this way leaves less guesswork and let’s me visualize how everything is put together in the end.

And in progress in my ‘backshop’ is a second attempt at a 5500 series stockcar, which thus far I think is turning out very nicely; the last attempt was a year and a half ago, when I had nigh a few months of experience with 3D modeling; so it left much to be desired overall.

I have a few passenger cars, as well as a attempt at D&RGW #50 in the works— and while those are very complete mesh wise, I think saving them to show once they are textured/finalized would be a better idea, and give interested people a little bit of something to look forward to.
That’s it for me today; I’m glad to get some feedback on the models, so don’t be afraid to chime in and let me know what you think needs improvement!
