Good afternoon. I wanted to pass along a potential job opening that may open soon at the D&SNG. We are looking for a rail car mechanic to help maintain and restore our rolling stock in Durango. This may be a part time, seasonal position or full time position, based in part on the applicant and the railroad's needs.
The railroad carman and car inspector is responsible for inspecting, servicing and maintaining/rebuilding the trucks, brakes, coupler systems, etc. on both passenger and freight equipment. Prior railroad experience is helpful, but not necessary, as we will train you,. All that is needed is some mechanical ability and common sense, the willingness to work a variety of shifts with a variety of people, and a great attitude. A sense of humor is also nice.
We have a lot of interesting projects coming up: Restoring another car for the National Park Service, rebuilding a caboose, revamping a coach, and restoring another of the D&SNG's boxcars. So now is the time to stop watching from afar, and come join the fun.
