After enjoying John West's recent posting of beautiful photos that showcase rotary snow plow operations, I was reminded of some lesser noted aspects of chasing rotaries. These pictures are drawn from a digitized VHS copy of my brother JR's Hi-8 video from 1993, so this is pretty fuzzy stuff, that will hopefully by replaced by a better version soon. Anyway....
Rotary operation isn't always in clean snow. There are also buried trees and branches that impede progress. Here the rotary had to stop and back up on account of buried Aspens
A crew member has climbed down into the rotary trough and is chucking out tree fragments
Other crew members are digging out trees and cutting them up with a chain saw
Digging out more tree fragments
it's along way back out of the trough
