The Esquel narrow gauge in happier days

January 26, 2019 11:17PM
The high wind accident on the Esquel narrow gauge line luckily was a one time event. High wind accidents happened often enough on The Milwaukee's Columbia River crossing at Beverly , Washington, that the railroad installed a high-wind triggered signal to stop trains before entering on the bridge.

Anyway, visiting the Esquel narrow gauge was about as close as you could get to experiencing abandoned lines on the Rio Grande, like the Valley line and Poncha Pass with their dramatic mountain backdrops. Here are a few pictures of happy days on narrow gauge in Patagonia.

The Ingeniero Jacobacci to Esquel mixed train is a couple of hours away from finishing it's 275-mile run, and will soon make a water stop at Lepa, November 14, 1978
