R.E. and Larry
There are a couple more things to be aware of when using digital cameras.
First, burning a CD is not archival. If you talk to someone in the data recovery business, they will tell you that 8-12 years is about the lifespan of a CD. Ditto for a VHS tape. Believe it or not, many blank VCR tapes and CDs have expiration dates printed on the packaging. In addition a consumer grade CD burner doesn't burn the data as deep on a CD as a commercial grade one.
Second, back it up. If you are going to digitize your photo collection, make more then one copy. Someday, you may end up with an error message instead of the picture you were looking up.
Last year I thought long and hard about whether or not I wanted to go digital and if I did how. I ended up going with a film scanner for three reasons.
1) backward compatibility
2) archival image
and
3) superior quality prints
The best of both worlds
Have a nice one
