Durango & Silverton Work Train

The D&S took Number 486 out for a test run and work train today. She has been in the shop all winter. The work train consisted of the big steel box car (I don't like it either), ex-Uintah Water Car 0470, five open gondola cars, Water Tank Car 0474, two EBT ballast hoppers, four 6500 flat cars loaded with new ties, and Caboose 0540.
It was a heavy train and 486 worked hard on the 2.5% grade out of Hermosa. The two EBT hoppers and tank car 0474 were left at Rockwood. The cars of ties and water car 0470 were left at Needleton or Elk Park sidings.
Water Car 0470 was topped off with water at Hermosa.
Water Car 0470 is equipped with a pump.
