Most east bound crews did their own hill turns.
The Narrow Gauge was quite busy in the 50's with
all of the pipe traffic and empty returns.
During the stock rushes they had limited hours
to get the livestock to market, so they would
get the cars to Alamosa with minimun delay, and
most often ran the trains from the west into
Chama, changed crews and were off to Alamosa.
