End of steam on La Veta

November 05, 2001 06:20PM
Currently reading that portion of Rasmussen's book on La Veta. While he doesn't give the last date for the 3400's or 3600's over the pass, the last picture showing one is of 3608 in Alamosa on Sept 24,1955. He also has a shot of the last steam run on the standard gauge with 1151 on Dec 26, 1956 on a turn from Alamosa to Creede and back. Crew members shown are conductor Harold Thayne, engineer Ben Greathouse, and general foreman Lou Ficklin.
