Sorry William, I can't help you on this one. My stuff starts on Feb. 1, 1961. According to our records in Chama, 482 last ran for the D&RGW on April 20, 1959. I believe the Cumbres depot was torn down in the Fall of 1953 (?). The most common reason for mid train helpers out of Chama in the 50's was to keep from folding up wood idler flats. The wood idler flat cars would be trained behind the helper while the more substantial wood and steel cars would be ahead. The construction of more steel cars and idlers built from box/stock cars in the mid 50's made mid-train helpers less common.
