Hi,
As I recall, Alamosa's T12 169 has a bad boiler that prevents it from being restored. Although others may take the valid position that the historic metal from the last boiler the loco had is untouchable, I think that seeing it operate is much better.
With operation in mind, what condition is Colorado Springs' 168? is is a candidate for restoration?
Did the T-12 have a built up frame or a cast one? If a built up one, an operating replica of a T-12 might be a reasonable goal. With current welding techniques, once the built up frame is assembled, the parts could be welded together. After seeing Linn's photos of RGS #20 having parts of its frame removed and replacements being welded into place, maybe this is not so far fetched.
Might the T-12 is a candidate for an American NG version of an operating replica like the Brits just showed was possible?

Now for extreme dreaming, make a replica of a C-16 and have a T-12 "San Juan" with a C-16 helper crossing Cumbres.
