Yeah, lawyers, and insurance companies may yet kill off the steam hobby.
The rumors are that good ole J Payton has been retained as an expert witness by the family of the owner in any pending lawsuits, and all the injured have retained lawyers....Any bets it becomes a search for the deepest pockets rather than the greatest reponsibility?
At LEAST 2 clubs have had their liability insurance cancelled, several more are facing premium hikes so large that it may well cripple them. Several states are considering revising their antique boiler laws, Why? In most cases simply because it will make some politico LOOK good, whether it accomplishes anything, or not.
There are only 2 things that I'm sure of, 1. We haven't begun to see the fallout from this, and 2. In the end, it will be the honest, safety concious operators who will pay the most.
Small consolation that statistically you are still MUCH safer around a steam engine than in your car... or in your bathroom
