More on the Silverton Line

October 23, 2013 10:01AM
Here are two more 1985 images related to the ones I already posted.
First is 497 at Silverton ready to head back to Durango. I took this as a nice portrait of the engine against the lovely mountain backdrop. As I worked on the image I noted more things than I originally saw, including the dog in the foreground, the old army truck to the right of the pilot in the background, and the cabin along the river!! This was shot on the same day as the other 497 shot posted a day or two ago.

Next is at Hermosa, with 481 hustling the passenger train(2nd of the day I believe) past 476 on the work train. The loader is busy reloading the hopper cars with ballast. There was major track work being done all along the line from 1981-to 1985 when we were there. This was one of my favorite images on the D&S since its not often you see two trains together going in the same direction. Also 476 no longer runs, and I like real work trains once in awhile. We shot 4-5 of these little runs that day with 476. It kept us busy!!! Greg
