Ted and the NG board,
All five stalls of the new roundhouse will connect to the turntable. Additionally, at least three radial 'open-air' leads are planned adjacent to the east side of the roundhouse and a number on the west side. One of those on the east side will be short and used for loose wheels. At some point our ex-UP, ex-Laramie Valley 0-6-0 and C&S rotary (both std. gauge) will also go on one those tracks. All will connect with the ttble. One of the leads will also have 'run-thru' capability across the turntable to the lead from the main line.
Project timing: As this is written, the concrete pit walls, ring rail and center pivot are finished, awaiting installation of the bridge. The bridge's end rollers and associated bearings have been totally rebuilt by Andy Dahlm. Backfill needs to be added between the pit wall and the roundhouse. Then that part of the project is ready for the pair of 75-ton cranes needed to lift the bridge into position in the pit. What is currently lacking is the lead trackage from the museum's mainline up to the turntable, plus the leads from the turntable to the rail stubs extending out from each roundhouse stall. As well, railings will have to be added here and there to keep the unwary from breaking their necks. Funding is in place for all of this; it simply is a matter of labor to get it done.
