TRAINS Magazine newswire reports that India's Nilgiri Mountain Railway has taken delivery of the second of four brand new oil fired 0-8-2T Abt rack locomotives. Two similar Indian-built steamers are expected to be delivered later this year.
The Nilgiri Mountain Ry. is a meter gauge 26-mile rack and adhesion line, constructed in 1908 under British rule. It has 250 bridges, 16 tunnels and gradients of up to 8.33 percent on the rack section. The four new 0-8-2T's replace a quartet of SLM 0-8-2T's that are said to be worn out.
