Case Boiler Explosion

August 31, 2001 08:49AM
For those of you who do not know this, the state of Ohio and PA have never seen eye to eye on boiler inspections. Being from that area, for years I watched engines go from show to show and be legal in one state and not in the other. Argument after argument on if it was good or not. The bottom line is that I HAVE SEEN many photos of the explosion, have written a pretty long thesis on my opinion of this explosion and have posted it on this site. The bottom line is that the PA inspectors, may have been jerks in our eyes as engine collectors, but were only out to do their job and protect the public. That is not what happened in this case in Ohio. Think what you like, but I have seen many reports, many photos, even photos that are at NASA currently of the engine 30 seconds before it exploded that are taken from the left side of the engine and show the water glass clearly. You might not have known about those photos.....huh.....wonder why??? I may be stupid, but it was at 3/4 of a glass in that photo. The bottom line for me was, after seeing that photo and the many others; the crown sheet failure WAS the cause of the explosion, and not low water. Think what you like, but I have seen the evidence. If you think otherwise, I am going to question your intelligence as to whether or not you should even be around a steam engine or own one. Feel free to send me an email and I will correspond with you. Thank you.
