USN Pearl Harbor NCNG cars

On a couple of chat lists I nave been casting about for some information on the ex Florence & Cripple Creek boxcars that went over to Hawaii to be used at the USN Pearl Harbor Supply Depot. The only photo of these cars is in Gerald Best's book on the NCNG, showing them painted and lettered but not numbered.
Here's the problem. The photo makes the cars look like they were painted a dark color (to some of us). At one time I had some people saying the cars were painted black. Another suggestion was a dark blue. Still other suggestions have been that the photo doesn't look like a black car and it may be an Olive Drab (other std gauge cars were found in OD) or just a dark boxcar red.
Does anyone have any first-hand knowledge of the color of these cars? Maybe a relative that was there and might remember?
