The #346 still has the replacement carbon steel boiler that was installed by the D&RG in 1914. Most of the mechanical damage was superficial from that accident. The only really major replacements was the construction of an all new steel cab and the replacement of the top ring of the steam dome scavenged from a sand dome from a scrapped standard gauge engine.

The Steam dome & sand dome rings were later replaced by Bob Richardson salvaged from the #345 after it was purposely wrecked in the movie "Denver & Rio Grande", but that is a whole other story.
