It took me a while but I finally put the pictures from my camera on the computer that show the headlight and the other items.
A View of the right wing close up. You can see the latch at the bottom.
I have looked in many books and online for similar headlights but found none. I have come to the conclusion that it is definitely not D&RGW/RGS style at all. I then looked at my photos of the SP mogul outside the museum and discovered that there was a very similar design on this engine. I have zoomed in and attached it here.
This is the whistle that is stamped D&RGW. I looked in some of the standard gauge D&RGW steam books I have and found similar looking whistles on L-131 and L-105 articulateds. They have a small picture of L-131 3606 hanging on an adjacent whistle That I know is definitely not correct. I suspect they have the picture on the wrong whiste.
There are lots of builders plates at this museum and I am wondering if anyone knows where on the web you can find a place with builders numbers that I could compare the numbers at the museum with?
It is still a mystery where this headlight is from but I would like to tell the museum something more than just negative information. They have stated that they would really like to have the correct information on the items they have.
