I'm glad someone spoke up and saved me a bunch of typing. The Reading 6 chime showed up in Chama back in the 1980's in the bottom of a 55 gal drum of misc parts, along with the brass flat top 5 chime that was on 497 for several years. 484 had just come back into service after being down for several years so we put the Reading whistle on her. It was a great sounding whistle back then. It cracked over occasionally, but it was a livable deal. Over time, it began to crack over more and more until it did it constantly. The throat plate got worn. I tried to take the whistle apart to make a new plate, but couldn't get it apart so I gave up, and put it on the shelf. Every once and a while some misguided soul would grab the thing and put it on an engine much to the engine crew's disgust.
