Interesting SVRR find!

I went to the Baker City OR, Friend's of the Library sale this morning and bought a very interesting book! However it is not the book, but a note in it that relates to SVRR. The book is Mallory Hope Ferrel's reprint, "The 1871 Grant Locomotive Works Catalog", #1086 of 1500, inscribed, " to my friend, Brooks Hawley (many of the photos in Rails, Sagebrush and Pine came from him).
Inside is a two page letter to Mr. Hawley, part referring to a drive they took. "Yes, I often recall the SV spike (I still have the spike from the trip too!)in the tire the time you took Hank Griffiths over the old grade. It was a great trip for us, but I fear that you paid the "price".
There's quite a bit more, but I thought that was a fun find!
