This is my annual reminder regarding 485's fall into the Salida turntable pit, in an attempt to dispel the urban legend that the 485 fell into the pit in 1955.

The 485 fell into the Salida turntable pit on December 7, 1953. Repeat after me 1953, 1953, 1953. Should you hear someone say 1955, at maybe the Nat. Narrow Gauge Conv., please advise them that it was on December 7, 1953, December 7, 1953, and oh by the way, December 7, 1953.

This is also the 55th anniversary of that event.

Thank you, thank you very much.

Jim McKee
