The 73 is getting a major overhaul. Having been the only steam power on the White Pass, it saw a lot of work with little chance for repairs.
The steam locomotives pick up the passenger trains at the dock or the station, pull them up to where the waiting string of diesels waits and trades off.
The 73 also made the run to Bennett for specials. I believe the need to overhaul it was the reason the 40 was leased.
Supposedly the White Pass has purchased the 69 from the Stuhr Museum. Supposedly the rebuilding/overhaul of the 69 would take 3-4 years, about the time the lease of the 40 would run out.
