Re: Narrow Guage less than 36"

I know this message board is mainly US. But England has been mentioned so I suppose Austria should be in the list, too. There were and still are quite a lot of 750 mm railroads in Austria. They served rural areas like the Waldviertelbahn. This one is to the utter north east of Austria at the Chech border. It has interesting viaducts and climbs the hills in twisting loops. They use 0-8-0 's there. [www.erlebnis-bahn-schiff.at] It was closed down June 9th, 2001 *sniff*. Another mountain line is the Mariazeller Bahn [www.mariazellerbahn.at] near Vienna. It was electrified quite early. Alpine valleys are another region for these little critters. Most famous is the Zillertalbahn [www.zillertalbahn.at] which was mentioned on this board already. All these lines are still operating as common carriers! Steam is preserved for tourists. If you ever go to europe, have a look at those. <img class=" />
In Germany there were many 750 mm lines in Wurttemberg and Saxonia. Not much of these is left, though. Attempts are made to rescue the Jagsttalbahn in Wurttemberg. In Saxonia the line from Radebeul to Radeberg is still in existence as well as some others which formed a network of narrow gauge once ago.
