Erik,
I got a hold of a copy of "the Claim" last night and watched it. You are right. The whole "feel" was probably very close to how it actually was back in 1867. Building the CPRR across the Sierra Nevadas must have been unbearably cold, miserable and very difficult! Probably not unlike building railroad over Cumbres pass or working in the Animas canyon in the winter of 1880-81. The story was a little slow, but once you caught on the message was clear, unmistakable, and powerful. Greed is a powerful enemy, young grasshopper, BEWARE! All in all it was pretty good in my book.
