C&TS box car coaches

Why and when were the original "box car coaches" taken out of service on the C&TS?
I rode the train at age 13 some 25 years ago in one of these coaches and have not been able to make it back to Chama since.
It was a great experience and I have been hooked ever since. My grandfather took me.
We rode up the hill behind the 483 and the 487. At the time, I thought the box car coaches were great!
Just curious.
