Despite all the negative comments, I find the engine to be very logical, even if bizzare looking.
Without knowing the actual mechanicals or the quality of the workman ship, this engine is really no different than any of the other well-known geared engines.
What you have in a steam locomotive is a stationary boiler, an engine, and a means to transmit the engine's power to the wheels.
When you add to that the fact that many logging operations tried to design and build thier own equipment, the reality is not that hard to consider.
