Hi,
I was watching RFD's Trains and Locomotives about Rowland's C&O 614 and the Mainline operations over ex-Erie trackage.
I doubt that there are many places in the US where Mainline steam operations can be recreated. I'd love to have seen the PRR electrics exchange freight and passenger with steam in Harrisburg in the 1930's and 1940's.
One statement I heard about the 614 was that the very steep grade was 0.86% for 7 miles. It is about 15th the steepness of Cumbres and the D&S and C&TS can do a reputable job of recreating their 1930's and 1940's operations. Thanks to the had effort of the volunteers who saved the RR remnants.
EBT, if they ever get the mainline open, could do a very creditable job of recreating its operation in the 1930s and 1940s.
It sounds like the SV is moving that way also.
The WP&Y could do a creditable simulation of its 1950's and 1960's diesel freight operations.
The Texas State RR might be able to replicate mainline steam operations.
Would New Mexico be interested in a mainline steam railfan weekend an the ex-Sante Fe? It night be the best "high speed" rail available.
Just food for thought.
