The best way to help improve the ride for the general public is to have clean windows that open, good soft seats and a receptive crew that makes personal contact, and not bull horn speakers. There is plenty of time before the train starts making its own noise.
New video technology should be used with a video camera on the pilot and two in the cab showing the action of the crew for everyone to watch by standing in the baggage car or a screen or two in the coaches. Then sell them the copy of the trip if they want to take it home with them to enjoy again later.
