Hi, Scott -
I'd like to add that shot to one of the #483 screen savers, but it's not D&RGW nor C&TS - not even narrow gauge. Darn! Hopefully somebody will do a Nevada Northern screen saver one of these days - if they haven't already.

The P-8 Pacifics were built to pull S.P.'s top transcontinental passenger trains from Sparks, Nevada to Ogden, Utah in the early 1920's. At more than 500 miles, this was the world's longest run without an engine change at the time. I believe a few of the P-8's even had dark green boiler jackets, etc., similar to the K-36's. They became VERY utilitarian in their later years, however, working in the San Francisco peninsula commuter service and pulling an occasional weekend freight well into the 1950's.

p.s. The 4449 avatar photo is NNG, so I'll reserve it for it's anniversary date. If you'd like to see a larger version, it was used by CedCO as the cover / December photo for their "Those Magnificent Trains" calender in 1997, and again for the December photo a couple of years ago. (I think Charlie re-used it in '05 due to some financial problems; I still haven't been paid for the reprise. I'm not terribly concerned - it's a bit of an ego trip for an amateur photographer to have one of his shots published internationally, and he paid me $400 in 1997. That's good enough for me!)
